Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is used to help children struggling with developmental disabilities (such as autism), learning disabilities and mental health concerns. The program promotes learning new skills and reducing challenging actions by applying the principles of behavior and learning. It is one of the leading therapies for individuals with autism and can have a significant impact on helping individuals develop a wide variety of life skills.
ABA therapy focuses on increasing communication, social relationships, and positive behaviors, while also working at decreasing learning deficits and challenging behaviors. Motor, language, academic, social, self-care (including toilet training), and behavioral skills are all facets of the program, but the treatment plans are flexible and built around the specific needs of an individual.
After being accepted into our program, a child is evaluated by a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) using a complete skills assessment, such as ABLLS-R or VB-Mapp. After the assessment, a comprehensive plan is written which drives the child's educational program. The BCBA works collaboratively with the family, school and other therapists to provide a comprehensive treatment approach as well.
