Meet the Clinic Director!
Ed is a decorated physical therapist with a strong focus on the McKenzie method of treating back pain.
Having grown up in New York, Ed completed his undergraduate degree in biology and kinesiology at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. He went on to graduate in the first DPT (doctor of physical therapy) class at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in 2007 and practiced as a staff physical therapist in Kalamazoo, MI for 11 years prior to joining our team.
As his interest in the McKenzie method and treating back pain heightened, Ed earned an advanced degree in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. He felt so passionate about the subject that he went on to oversee clinical education and mentoring for McKenzie therapists. Additionally, Ed is a clinical lab assistant for the McKenzie Institute.
In addition to treating patients, Ed is passionate about serving his profession on local and national levels and has been an advocate for his profession throughout his career. Before serving two terms on the Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA) Board of Directors as Western District Chair, Ed traveled to Washington, D.C. and functioned as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Federal Affairs Liaison for the state of Michigan for three years. He has successfully coordinated visits to Capitol Hill and helped with grassroots efforts for federal issues. While on the MPTA Board of Directors, Ed established very successful fundraisers for the Michigan Physical Therapy Political Action Committee (MPT PAC). He also played an integral part in the success of bringing Direct Access to the state of Michigan.
Because of the unique service Ed provides, he's established a rapport with a number of healthcare providers in the Kalamazoo area. In many cases, he has even treated referring providers and their family members.
Notable accolades include a 2012 graduate student award from GVSU; a 2014 APTA Emerging Leader; and a 2018 GVSU Distinguished Physical Therapy Alumni Award Recipient. Ed is also a reviewer for the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy and has been featured on the Lori Moore Show on WWMT, and Doc Talk.
