What we treat

Down below on this page, you’ll find the full list of what we treat and programs we offer. A high percentage of injuries and pain syndromes result from weakness and/or tightness in neighboring regions of the musculoskeletal system. Our therapists evaluate possible compensatory patterns in addition to the area of pain or loss of function. This thorough examination allows us to better identify and eliminate all underlying causes so patients achieve lasting results. We also focus on educating you, so that you’re empowered to take control of your injury, grow stronger than ever, and prevent recurrences.

We understand the impact that pain and loss of function can have on the lives of our patients. Our entire staff, from the front desk to our clinical team, provides a compassionate and motivational environment dedicated to healing. We ensure we are meeting each patient’s unique needs so their experience is both enjoyable and rewarding. We have extensive experience treating a variety of conditions including: shoulder injuries and surgeries, knee injuries and reconstructions/replacements, spinal conditions and surgeries, sports injuries and muscle traumas, chronic and acute pain syndromes, neck conditions and surgeries, pre and post-surgical cases, geriatric conditions, work-related injuries, chronic pain conditions, lower back pain, general strains and sprains, joint replacement recovery, vestibular and balance conditions, auto accidents, hand and wrist injuries, and much more!

I went to physical therapy at Mettler Center for various months and highly recommend them. I worked with Ben on issues related to chronic pain and mobility. He was very helpful, thoughtful, patient, smart, and friendly. Beyond his technical expertise, he accompanied me emotionally through the process of recovery. I think Mettler Center offers a wonderful service to the Urbana-Champaign community, and I highly recommend them!

Mettler Center Physical Therapy is great. I have been a patient at this facility several times for different issues and have been very pleased with the service and care I have received. All staff are very friendly, professional, accomodating, compassionate and do their jobs well. My physical therapist, Ben, is the individual I have seen throughout my association with Mettler P.T. I recommend him highly. He is knowledgeable, caring, and is good at what he does. Ben works with you one-on-one during your session providing relief for your ailment as well as designing an exercise program that you can use at home to help you address your problem on your own. I recommend Mettler P.T. highly.

Exceptional and professional service from therapists, trainers, and staff. Ben has helped me reach and surpass my goals for being able to be pain-free, and to be able to perform daily tasks at work that I haven't been able to do in a long time. You all really care about your patients and their well-being. Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience. I had been struggling for some time with calf issues. Dr. Park did a great job diagnosing and treating me. I'm back to normal... and more importantly I have a trajectory to follow to protect the issue from happening again. Caring and competent!

This is not my first rodeo in PT. The last place I went is run by one of the big hospitals in town. My experience was so awful I almost gave up on physical therapy all together. This time around, I chose to get my physical therapy at Mettler because I heard about how thorough and knowledgeable the therapists are. I have seen Peggy and Ben. The therapists here have completely changed my view of physical therapy, and have given me hope to what is possible for recovering from back pain and regaining mobility. They use many modalities to help you get your pain under control and rebuild strength and flexibility. They are passionate about their work and always reading the latest evidence based practice. The first time I went to PT I didn't know I could tell my doctor I wanted to go to a certain place for therapy. I am so glad I asked the second time around. It's life changing!

If you’re serious about getting back to 100% or even better, Mettler Center Physical Therapy is the place to go. I was dealing with a chronic lower back injury for 3 years. I went to Athletico and Carle Physical Therapy since both were in-network. Both places treated me but eventually said it’s about pain management and that this is as good as it gets. They said it would come down to some days I would feel great, other days not so much. As someone who loves playing sports and working out consistently, imagine hearing that in your mid 20’s. I was a bit desperate and completely frustrated so I looked up Mettler Center. I went in for an injury consultation. I was scheduled to meet with Matthew Gordon. During the consult, he explained to me what he believed was going on and the steps that would need to be taken to get me back to where I wanted to be. The only problem was it was currently out-of-network with my health insurance. Mettler Center presented me a cash rate option that I believed was reasonably priced and fair for the level of treatment they were giving me. What I really appreciated about Mettler Center PT was the level of care they take with their patients. Places like Atheltico and Carle, they will do manual therapy for 20 mins and then next 40 minutes hand you off to an aide to go over exercises with you. I don’t agree with that approach. If you’re paying for a full hour session with a certified PT, that should be what you’re getting. I think it’s especially important to have the PT observe your exercises to see if there are things you are doing functionally that can be corrected to avoid repetitive injury. Another great thing is that the physical therapists at Mettler teach you and help you understand WHY you’re getting certain treatment and going through progressions of certain exercises. I now have a much better understanding of how to listen to my body and what areas I need to really focus on to improve strengthening and stability. Personal thanks to Matthew Gordon. After working with him not only am I back to playing the sports that I love, I feel that I’m better health-wise pre injury. If you want to get better, Mettler Center is THE way to go.

I am a current patient at Mettler Center and have seen the physical therapists Jasmine, Matthew, and Kimberly currently and in the past. They all make me feel extremely comfortable with the treatment and make me feel like they're actually listening and care about what I have to say. I saw Jasmine for a more private issue which I was slightly nervous about at the beginning, but she really helped me feel comfortable with her and increased my understanding of my problem. I saw both Matt and Kim for the same issue and they gave me a new perspective on why I was having the pain I was having.Besides the physical therapy department, it looks like all the employees enjoy working with their clients which makes the whole atmosphere of Mettler Center pleasant.

I was able to see Peggy after dealing with headaches for years. She was able to find the main issue and give me exercises and stretches to do/help me with. I haven't had a headache now for over a month, and it's amazing to feel how much my posture has improved and how much less pain I have in my neck/head.

Great atmosphere and nice facility. I have been there over 5 times for various injuries and have been very happy with my results. My care was so good that I want to be a therapist myself. I recommend any of the therapists especially Ben Kim.

I've been to Mettler a few different seasons due to various injuries and they have been instrumental to getting me back on track. Admittedly, I'm a bit rough on my body due to sitting for hours in front of a computer conducting data analyses, but this most recent treatment period by Dr. Benjamin Kim included him teaching me exercises to strengthen my core so that I could continue to sit at length working on data (which is my job and I cannot avoid it) as well as help my golf game (semi-joking). I did want to respond to another review's comments about the pain of myofascial release. I am no doctor (of medicine at least), but I am fairly certain that Mettler does not conduct myofascial release, but rather a different technique that is meant to break apart tissue underneath the skin that is restricting muscle movement, and that process is admittedly painful. With that said, I have had this treatment many times (I believe it is called the Mettler Release Technique) and although it was definitely painful, it helped me to regain mobility in certain areas that were frozen. After that, it was up to me to follow exercise routines meant to strengthen and stretch out that area so that it doesn't freeze up again. If TLDR, give Mettler a try, especially Dr. Benjamin Kim.

I have not found an energy worker for over a decade who has the ability to channel light and connect on such a deeply intuitive level. The Reiki and massage combo is a blessing.

This review is a long time in the making, but after living with chronic back pain for months, Dr. Jeff Schroder taught me that I don't have to live with it. I have since moved away, but still do the exercises he taught me, and if it were not for him and the excellent physical therapy staff at Mettler, I would still be living with my back pain. He set a foundation for me to successfully manage my pain for the rest of my life. I love that the staff works with you to fit a busy schedule, and they have excellent hours which helps. The massage therapists at Mettler also do a great job, which is a nice supplement to the physical therapy. I wish I hadn't moved so that I could still patronize Mettler Center, but highly recommend it to anyone in the Champaign area!
