What we treat

Below on this page, you’ll find the full list of what we treat and the programs we offer. A high percentage of injuries and pain syndromes result from weakness and/or tightness in neighboring regions of the musculoskeletal system. Our therapists evaluate possible compensatory patterns in addition to the area of pain or loss of function. This thorough examination allows us to better identify and eliminate all underlying causes so patients achieve lasting results. We also focus on educating you, so that you’re empowered to take control of their injury, grow stronger than ever, and prevent recurrences.

We understand the impact that pain and loss of function can have on the lives of our patients. Our entire staff, from the front desk to our clinical team, provides a compassionate and motivational environment dedicated to healing. We ensure we are meeting each patient’s unique needs so their experience is both enjoyable and rewarding.

We have extensive experience treating a variety of conditions including shoulder injuries and surgeries, knee injuries and reconstructions/replacements, spinal conditions and surgeries, sports injuries and muscle traumas, chronic and acute pain syndromes, neck conditions and surgeries, pre and post-surgical cases, geriatric conditions, work-related injuries, chronic pain conditions, lower back pain, general strains and sprains, joint replacement recovery, vestibular and balance conditions, auto accidents, and much more!

The staff at Ivy Rehab-Washington Square provided exceptional care in a friendly and compassionate environment. Very convenient location for me as I work in Center City. Jeanamarie Banta and her colleagues helped me recover from bilateral hip replacement and I'm back running, pain-free. I highly recommend their care.
I went to Jeanamarie for frozen shoulder in October and had a great experience. My homework was easy to manage. If I mentioned a spot I was sore or had pain, she knew what to do to alleviate the issue. You’ll be in good hands if you go here.
Brad is the man. Best therapist I've ever had - a true pro and a nice guy to boot!
I went to Ivy rehab for longer than 6 months. Ashley my PT was exceptional and made me more mobile again. I had been suffering from my injury/ailment for nearly a decade and I can safely say that I’m nearly back to 100%. I’m able to do hiit workouts again and run. I can also sit in a chair without getting extremely painful back pain. I’ve been to a lot of physical therapy places and I can say that this has been the most productive and healing one.
My PT Andrew is highly skilled, compassionate, and positive. My doctor was amazed at my speedy recovery. I’m happy to have Andrew on my healing team.
First I went for my knee. Andrew was so helpful and I have continued with the exercise program he had suggested and after several months, I no longer have knee pain. Most recently, I fell and injured my neck and shoulder. This time, Matt has been helping me. He is amazing - both knowledgable and compassionate. He is a good listener and helped me coordinate care with my doctor and acupuncturist. Hopefully, I won't need PT services again, but at my age, and with my level of clumsiness, I think I'll be back.
Andrew listened to me, and has been doing a fantastic job with my PT.
Excel is a wonderful place for physical therapy. My therapist, Adam Bacon is the very best.
Staff is very kind and professional. The therapy in office and exercises done at home were effective at resolving my pain. I would definitely recommend Excel to others. Already have!
I highly recommend Brad Richie for his knowledge and expert care. I have successfully rehabbed my knee and neck. You will not be disappointed!
I had a great experience at Excel PT! I came in because I hurt my leg from running, and throughout the recovery process, my physical therapist Maria was super friendly and incredibly accommodating of my busy schedule as a medical student doing clinical rotations. She worked with me when I needed to change appointment times, gave me new exercises tailored to my needs as my training evolved, and was responsive to my questions by e-mail about my progress. I really appreciate all her help!
Brad was an amazing therapist. My back feels like new
From the minute you enter the door, everyone you see is friendly and caring. The therapy sessions are A+
They're great.
I made great progress working with Andrew! He was always on time, answered my questions clearly and gave me continued confidence amd support. If you’re looking for a competent, caring physical therapist, Andrew’s the man!
I went to Brad twice for my back over the past year and I have never felt better. He is amazing to work with, has an indepth knowledge of anatomy, sports medicine, healing(this is coming from being a physician myself) and that clearly comes through in his therapy. Knows when to push and to lay back a little bit, make sure the client understands everything, and if you're someone who is usually active and functional looking to recover from an injury and get back to the gym, he will DEF give you a workout during the sessions when you're ready and get you back, I was more sore from a lot of the sessions than I am when I go to the gym myself! Very easy to work with and flexible schedulingHighly recommend Excel and especially Brad, will def be coming back for any future issues
My best Physical therapy experience yet, thanks to Brad Richie. From living with constant pain to the best shape of my life after suffering a torn labrum in my hip in just a few months. Brad is a professional, very knowledgeable, and accommodating. Additionally, there is always a good atmosphere in the clinic, and everyone else are super nice and helpful as well. Highly recommended.
I have had a very painful repetitive stress injury to my neck and shoulder for a couple of years. Nothing seemed to alleviate it. Excel on Walnut Street succeeded! In addition, they gave me a detailed and clear set of exercises to do at home to maintain the results. My therapist was Brad—great guy and very knowledgeable!
I am grateful to Excel PT. I saw Andrew for my frozen shoulder. Andrew helped me to get out of pain and to get my range of motion back. I am now back to being able to do normal daily activities such as wash my hair and get dressed using both my arms and without pain. The office was professional (appointments on time, reminder notices, friendly and helpful when need arose to reschedule, conscientious about COVID). Andrew was an attentive listener and practitioner and treated our relationship like a partnership; I received information I needed to help me engage in my own recovery.
Excellent experience with Adora. She is kind, compassionate, encouraging and effective. Very grateful I found her. Highly, highly recommend.
My physical therapist, Ashley stay with me the whole session and corrects me when I am not doing exercises correctly. I believe that the gains I've made are the result of her expertise and attention.
I always feel heard when expressing concerns related to my rehab at Excel Washington Square and I have made so much progress since working with Nicole!
Nicole is great to work with. The program she put together worked wonders for my back!
Friendly staff and Dr. Samantha Fazio has been a great PT.
After experiencing chronic back pain for months, I was skeptical that physical therapy was going to help. Brad R and his great team erased those concerns as I now have far more movement and comfort than I expected. They got me back to running and biking. Great atmosphere, amazing people. They'll make you feel like you've known them for years. Thanks for all the help!
This is my second time working with Bradley (Brad) Richie, the Clinic Director, at Excel Washington Square. I previously saw Brad at the Business District location which was next door to my residence. When I required physical therapy again, I decided to return to Brad at his new location (Washington Square) and I am so glad I did.If you have read the other reviews on Excel and about Brad, I am sure you will find many accolades and praises for his knowledge, commitment and excellence. All of that is true and then some. A bit about my physical therapy journey is below in the event this is helpful to someone else.About a year ago, I started experiencing pain in my left hip which was progressively increasing. In addition, I developed electric shocks down my right arm. It was hard to put on my shoes, dress and get up from a sitting position. This was horrifying to me. To make a long story short, I was a former marathon runner, fitness fanatic, dancer and coach for marching band and color guards for 40 years. I was constantly active and I felt invisible. Like many others, the pandemic resulted in a massive change to my life and as a consequence, I developed weight gain, mild depression and a sedentary lifestyle. Collectively, this led me to a state of pain and poor health that I had never experienced. I was ready to give up.My orthopedic specialist recommended an injection in my hip, medication, x-rays and an MRI — as well as possible epidurals and/or surgery. I was horrified. However, he suggested I find a McKenzie certified physical therapist to see if this would help instead. That led me to Brad since he is McKenzie certified and was convenient to my home. I would suggest doing research on this method and/or purchasing the book "Treat Your Own Back" by Robin McKenzie which is a very helpful companion tool.Initially working with Brad, I knew I was in good hands. A typical visit would start with a consultation, discussion, hands on treatment and supervised exercises with homework and instructions. A patient portal is also available. Brad will go above and beyond to make sure you understand everything and answer all your questions patiently and with concern. After working on my exercises 5 times a week, I decided to return to Brad for a “tune-up” and get some tweaks to my exercises at home. In a few weeks, I noticed even further improvement. I am back to two dance classes a week and feel like a new person. All of this was a process — healthy living, eating, rest, physical therapy and “Brad’s exercises” (e.g., McKenzie therapeutic exercises) 5 times a week for 30 minutes in the morning. You have to put the work in. If you do, you will likely improve beyond your expectations as I did. That is priceless. In observing the other therapists at Excel during my sessions, I am sure any of them would be fantastic for your particular needs. There was a constant sense of engagement and professionalism during the treatments. The energy was positive and the front desk staff was also professional and cordial. The facility is clean, sanitary and spacious. As the clinic director, I have no doubt that Brad's guidance and influence is the catalyst for all of these positive things.Overall, you cannot go wrong at Excel or with Brad (or any of the therapists). Just remember my advice: You get out of therapy what you put in. There is no quick fix. If you are the type of person who wants to give 100% to your recovery and therapy, then Brad and Excel are for you.
Went to Excel Washington Sq to see Brad who specializes in McKenzie method to address my long and lingering issues. He's been really great throughout my whole treatment plan there - very professional and knowledgable! Also excellent protocols since I've been going during covid. Highly recommend him and the team!
Brad is hands down one of the best physical therapists I have ever gone to! Not only is he incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, but he’s also down to earth and explains things in a way you can understand. He knew exactly how to relieve my pain and discomfort and provided me with useful exercises that I can carry out for myself. Brad also takes into account what goals you wish to accomplish through PT and tailors the treatment plan to your specific needs. I would highly recommend his services to anyone. Overall had a wonderful experience.
Brad Richie and the whole team at Excel PT are like a family. Brad is an excellent person and professional. After my sessions I'm happy to say may back pain went away, I highly recommend Excel PT.
I've had a pinched nerve that caused numbness in my shoulder for the better part of my life now. I've asked multiple doctors about it, and even gone to physical therapy for it in the past. Brad is the first person to have ever been able to take that numbness away, and now it's been a month since my last appointment and still feeling great.
I would give 6 stars if I could. This was my first experience with physical therapy, so I was not sure what to expect and a little nervous about it. I saw Brad Richie, who put together a treatment plan for me that not only addressed the issues I was having, but also was manageable for me. Before we started he explained what was causing the problem in a way I could understand. There was a clear progression to the treatment plan that helped me build up strength as I healed without overwhelming me. I felt like I was in very capable hands with Brad. The space is very clean and organized. Hand sanitizer and surgical masks available. Lots of space between patients. Equipment is cleaned and linens are changed between patients. And there's a good selection of music. I doubt physical therapy is something many people enjoy, but I had such a good experience I looked forward to my appointments. I don't plan on re-injuring myself, but if it happens, I know where I'm going!
Professional, clean, effective. Nicole is excellent.
Excel was recommended to me by my PCP, and I am glad I went to get somehelp. The staff was friendly and started out by asking questions and listening. Right away , they began to provide stretches and exercises to gradually provide relief. As a result , I am on a good path !
Worked mainly with Brent who was very knowledgeable, helpful and just an all around nice guy. He knew exactly what he was doing and really helped me recover so much use of my arm after my shoulder replacement.
Can't recommend Sam Fazio enough. She helped me with pregnancy pain and pushing strategies while pregnant which made my postpartum recovery so much easier. She also helped me rehab post birth so that I could jump right back into exercises.
I’ve been working with Nicole for a few weeks now and my back hasn’t felt this good since before my car accident! She’s super nice and bubbly and makes you feel very comfortable! Plus her nail polish is GREAT! 10/10 would recommend 👍
I’m seeing Nicole Ludwig for my hip flexor and over the course of a month my pain has improved SO much. I have been in pt for several things in my life and this is the quickest I’ve ever recovered. I give her full 5 stars.
I received PT from Brad at Excel and highly recommend his services to others. Brad was knowledgeable, professional, and he also listened to my concerns and preferences when designing my treatment plan. His "homework" exercises for me were always easy to understand and functional. Overall, a great clinician and a wonderful practice!
The staff is very focused on helping develop exercises that I can use now and forever to help me get back to my active life and stay healthy.
Excel physical therapy is the beat PT center I’ve experienced. Very professional and committed to improving your help. Brenton has been an excellent physical therapist.
